BRP Sierra Madre

The BRP Sierra Madre, a Philippine Navy vessel grounded on Ayungin Shoal since 1999, remains a focal point for territorial disputes between the Philippines and China. Despite increased Chinese naval activity near the shoal, the Philippine government continues to conduct regular resupply missions for the ship's small contingent of soldiers. The presence of multiple Chinese vessels in the area has prompted heightened vigilance from the Philippine military but no immediate threat is reported as of August 28, 2025.
