Two CCG ships, 9 militia vessels surround Ayungin Shoal

Two China Coast Guard (CCG) ships were closely engaging two Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) vessels, BRP Bacayag and BRP Malapascua, in Ayungin Shoal, according to maritime expert Ray Powell.

Nine large Chinese maritime militia ships were also seen surrounding Ayungin Shoal.

Powell noted that it is unclear if China is impeding the resupply boat, which would mark the end of an agreement reached after a confrontation last year.

This incident comes ahead of a possible resupply mission to the Philippine Navy's BRP Sierra Madre.

The Philippine Navy had previously monitored 24 Chinese vessels, including four CCG ships and 20 Chinese maritime militia vessels, in the area for five days.

The PCG has not yet provided a statement on the incident.
