PH completes resupply mission to Ayungin Shoal amid China's monitoring

The Philippines successfully completed a troop rotation and resupply mission to Ayungin Shoal in the West Philippine Sea without any untoward incidents, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

This was the fifth resupply mission to the BRP Sierra Madre, a Philippine outpost, since a provisional understanding was reached in July 2024 to de-escalate tensions.

The DFA expressed thanks for the professionalism of the Philippine Navy and Philippine Coast Guard in conducting the mission.

China's coast guard stated it questioned and monitored the Philippine vessel, and will continue to carry out "rights protection and law enforcement activities" in the Spratly Islands and surrounding waters.

China hopes the Philippines will honor its commitments and work together to manage maritime issues and maintain stability.
