UST secures first UAAP men's volleyball win over UE

University of Santo Tomas secured its first victory in the UAAP Season 87 men's volleyball tournament by defeating University of the East with scores of 25-17, 25-18, 25-19 at Filoil EcoOil Centre on Saturday.

UST won despite the absence of Josh Ybañez due to a grade 2 sprain in his right ankle from their loss to Far Eastern University last week; however, the team's balanced attack and depth allowed them to overcome this setback.

Rookie Jan Macam led UST's offense with 14 points, while Jay Rack de la Noche contributed 12 points and Edlyn Paul Colinares added another 12 points to support their victory.

Coach Odjie Mamon praised the team for stepping up in Ybañez's absence, noting that anyone can step up for UST when needed, highlighting their lineup depth.

UE dropped to a 0-2 record after losing its ninth consecutive game dating back to Season 86 last year.
