UST extends winning streak over DLSU to four games

On Wednesday, February 26, University of Santo Tomas extended its winning streak over De La Salle University to four consecutive games in the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.

UST secured their victory despite missing key players Jonna Perdido and Xyza Gula; young guns like Beth Hilongo and Marga Altea stepped up, contributing crucial points in a decisive fifth set.

Angge Poyos led UST with 28 points off 24 attacks, three blocks, and one ace along with 16 excellent digs, while Reg Jurado added 17 points despite battling the flu, emphasizing the importance of composure under pressure.

UST's gritty performance and character have been key to their success against DLSU since last year, marking DLSU's worst start (1-2) since Season 68 in 19 years.

Team captain Detdet Pepito highlighted the importance of drawing strength from one another and playing for school pride rather than individual names, with rookie players stepping up to help secure UST's position as early contenders.
