UST women's volleyball team beats FEU in five sets

University of Santo Tomas (UST) secured a thrilling five-set victory over Far Eastern University in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament on Sunday, maintaining their perfect 4-0 record.

Despite losing the first two sets and trailing early in the third, UST rallied back with sophomore hitter Xyza Gula providing crucial contributions off the bench to win with scores of 25-23, 25-20, and 15-7.

UST coach KungFu Reyes emphasized the team's mentality and determination, noting their ability to fight for every point and set against challenging opponents like FEU, highlighting that it is about discipline, determination, and defense rather than just numbers and stats.

Gula led scoring with 13 points including three in the decisive fifth set, while rookie Angge Poyos contributed 21 attacks, two blocks, and an ace overall, and Mary Joe Coronado scored eight points.

The team's hard-fought victory demonstrated their resilience and ability to turn around games despite early deficits, as they continued their impressive start with a second straight five-set win following their triumph over La Salle.
