UST women's volleyball team aims to stay unbeaten against Ateneo

Unbeaten University of Santo Tomas (UST) aims to maintain its lead in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 86 women's volleyball tournament on Wednesday against Ateneo de Manila at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

UST completed a perfect 7-0 sweep in the first round, including victories over reigning champion De La Salle and powerhouse National University, setting them up for their best start since opening their championship run in 2006 with nine straight wins.

Super rookie Angeline Poyos leads UST's efforts, having scored her career-high 26 points against Ateneo Blue Eagles in a recent match.

UST faces increased pressure from the rest of the UAAP pack and an eager Ateneo team seeking to stay in contention for the Final Four as they aim to end their 14-year championship drought.

In the men's matches earlier in the day, National University (5-2) will face University of the Philippines (1-6) at 2 p.m., followed by UST vs. Ateneo and NU vs. UP matches.
