UST defeats NU in emotional UAAP men's volleyball match

University of Santo Tomas (UST) defeated defending champion National University in an emotional reverse sweep during the UAAP Season 86 men's volleyball tournament on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.

Josh Ybañez, reigning MVP, led UST with a career-high 34 points, firing 31-of-62 spikes, two blocks, and an ace while also contributing 25 excellent receptions.

Despite his individual achievements, Ybañez emphasized that the victory was a team effort, highlighting the collaborative spirit of his teammates.

Sherwin Umandal added 15 points while Gboy De Vega contributed 11 attack points crucially in the fourth set and Dux Yambao provided excellent setting with 26 excellent sets to maintain momentum throughout the match.

UST's decisive fifth-set victory secured their win after an intense two-hour and twenty-one-minute game, ending National University's seven-game winning streak and improving UST's record to a 5-4 tie with Ateneo at fourth place.

National University dropped to second place with a 7-2 record following the loss.
