Paeng death toll rises to 53 in BARMM

Residents in Maguindanao were caught off guard by the flash floods and landslides caused by tropical storm Paeng over the weekend.

As of Monday, the death toll in the Bangsamoro region has risen to 53 with 14 people still missing.

The BARMM had warned about the storm but did not anticipate such destructive flash floods and landslides.

At least 31 people were injured, mostly residents of a relocation site hit by landslides on Thursday dawn.

Over 582,000 individuals from 202,600 households across 389 barangays in the region have been affected.

The Bangsamoro government had prepared for Paeng but was overwhelmed by its fury, leading to a state of calamity declaration for the entire BARMM.
