Marcos rejects year-long nationwide calamity declaration due to Paeng

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. rejected a proposal to declare a nationwide, year-long state of calamity due to Tropical Storm Paeng.

Marcos said that after consulting with the DENR, damage from the storm was highly localized and not extensive enough to warrant a national declaration.

The NDRRMC had earlier recommended a one-year national state of calamity for 16 out of 17 regions affected by Paeng.

Despite the recommendation, Marcos believes focusing on existing calamity status in specific areas would be more effective.
