Romualdez backs calamity declaration for Paeng aftermath

Severe Tropical Storm Paeng caused massive flooding and landslides in the Philippines, resulting in at least 98 deaths.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council recommended President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declare a one-year state of national calamity, which Speaker Martin Romualdez fully supports.

Romualdez called for district representatives to assess damage and assist in relief operations, while also considering budget adjustments for rehabilitation efforts.

Reports indicate widespread destruction across the country, including damaged infrastructure and over 900,000 affected individuals.

The NDRRMC reported PHP54.96 million worth of agricultural damage and 714 destroyed houses.
