DSWD to lead relief aid distribution, prevent political abuse

President Rodrigo Duterte instructed the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to lead the distribution of relief aid to prevent local officials from using it for political gain.

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles stated that President Duterte does not want patronage politics involved in the implementation of relief assistance.

Nograles emphasized that local government units (LGUs) will assist but their role is limited to helping DSWD with distribution, ensuring full control remains with the national government.
