Duterte weighs GCQ options for Metro Manila, Cebu

President Rodrigo Duterte is considering three options for the new quarantine classification in Metro Manila and Cebu starting June 16.

The options include retaining the current general community quarantine (GCQ), implementing a less strict modified GCQ (MGCQ), or reverting to the more stringent modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the decision rests with Duterte, who must balance public health and economic concerns.

Roque noted that while the number of cases in Metro Manila and Cebu is not decreasing significantly, the President will decide on the next steps.
