Lawmaker urges Velasco to assert claim to speakership

Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Jay Q. Velasco should assert his right to the speakership as per a term-sharing deal brokered last year, according to Deputy Speaker Paolo Duterte.

Under the agreement, Cayetano would serve for the first 15 months of the 18th Congress while Velasco would take over for the remaining 21 months.

President Rodrigo Duterte reportedly told Velasco to 'insist' on his right to the speakership as it is now his 'right time'.

Velasco met with Duterte last week along with Cayetano to discuss the lingering row at the House, and another meeting was held on Monday night.
