DOH delays coronavirus update due to data validation

For the first time, the Department of Health (DOH) missed its usual 4 pm briefing on coronavirus cases on Friday, May 29.

The delay was caused by the need for the DOH to validate numbers and start identifying fresh or new cases from those that came from testing backlogs.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire explained that they would begin indicating dates on counts to differentiate between new cases and delayed results.

This change comes as the DOH has been reporting sudden increases in COVID-19 cases, with quarantine measures set to ease starting June 1.
