Buddin leads NU to five-peat despite injury

Buds Buddin has returned to help National University (NU) achieve a historic five-peat title conquest in the UAAP Season 87 men's volleyball tournament despite suffering from an ankle sprain.

Despite being only at about 80% fitness, Buddin contributed significantly with 20 points and 11 receptions during Game 2 against Far Eastern University (FEU), helping NU secure a victory in five sets, and followed it up with nine markers, 11 receptions, and a dig on Saturday to clinch the title.

Coach Dante Alinsunurin trusted Buddin's leadership and decision-making skills on the court, recognizing his unwavering commitment to the team despite being injured.

Buddin emphasized the importance of persistence during rehabilitation and expressed determination not to let the team lose, especially after previous seniors worked hard for this achievement.

The Bulldogs overcame numerous challenges throughout the season, including the departure of key players like Owa Retamar and Nico Almendras, and a nine-game winning streak by FEU at the start of Season 87.

With support from NU's conditioning coach and physical therapist, Buddin was able to return and contribute effectively to the team's success in their quest for a fifth consecutive UAAP title.
