Over 605,000 OFWs repatriated due to COVID-19

As of July 7, 2021, over 605,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have been repatriated to the Philippines due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III stated that between 30,000 to 40,000 more displaced OFWs are expected to be repatriated.

These repatriations continue as many OFWs lost their jobs and were displaced following the pandemic's onset last year.

Some OFWs have delayed their return, hoping to secure new employment abroad.

The DOLE, through the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), is covering the expenses for the quarantine, food, and transportation of returning OFWs.
