DFA repatriates 348 OFWs from UAE

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) repatriated 348 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from the United Arab Emirates on June 30.

These OFWs, including approximately 100 pregnant women, faced repatriation challenges due to the Philippine government's extended travel ban until July 15, implemented to prevent the spread of the Delta variant.

All 348 repatriated OFWs tested negative for the RT-PCR test conducted prior to their flight.

The Philippine Consulate in Dubai has over 3,000 pending repatriation requests from OFWs whose work visas have expired or been cancelled, putting them at risk of overstaying.

Consul General Paul Raymund Cortes stated that the consulate is working to mount more repatriation flights for distressed OFWs.
