The Subic Bay International Airport (SBIA) will receive rerouted Philippine Airlines (PAL) flights carrying returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from the Middle East starting July 5.
This initiative is part of a government program to ease the travel of OFWs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
SBIA is expected to accommodate six PAL Airbus A330 flights on July 5, 7, 15, 17, 25, and 27 this month, each carrying an average of 230 passengers.
The majority of these returning OFWs are from Dammam and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia.
The rerouting of flights to Subic aligns with the Civil Aeronautics Board's (CAB) policy to limit international airport arrivals to 1,500 passengers daily.
PAL has distributed its flights across various airports as part of its recovery plan to manage passenger capacity.
The Subic Bay Freeport Zone is positioned to assist repatriated workers who wish to return home amidst pandemic travel restrictions.
Subic also began serving as a Crew-Change One-Stop-Shop hub since September last year, helping bring home stranded Filipino seafarers or sending them back to work after their vacation.
