UST women's volleyball beats UE, secures first UAAP win

University of Santo Tomas secured its first victory in the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament, defeating University of the East at the FilOil EcoOil Centre on Saturday.

Regina Jurado and Angge Poyos led UST to a four-set win with combined scores of 43 points, as the Golden Tigresses triumphed 26-28, 25-22, 25-23, and 25-15.

UST's assistant coach Yani Fernandez highlighted the need for improved communication and error reduction ahead of their upcoming game against De La Salle University on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

UE was led by KC Cepada who scored 20 points but dropped to a 0-2 record, facing Adamson University next week.

UST's victory was crucial as it allowed them to bounce back from their season debut loss to Far Eastern and provided confidence heading into their match against La Salle.
