La Salle women's volleyball lose to NU in straight sets, De Jesus cites inexperience

La Salle women's volleyball coach Ramil De Jesus acknowledged his team's unexpected straight sets loss to defending champion National University in their UAAP Season 87 opener on Sunday night.

De Jesus attributed the defeat to his team's relative inexperience and highlighted the crucial role of NU’s experienced setter Lams Lamina, noting it was his first season-opening loss since Season 75.

Despite the setback, De Jesus remains optimistic about improvement and learning from mistakes for future games, emphasizing the importance of playmaking and stable setters to La Salle's success.

Julyana Tolentino struggled with only five excellent sets out of 42 attempts compared to NU's Lams Lamina who had 20 out of 78, while Shevana Laput was the lone bright spot for La Salle with 18 points.

De Jesus stressed that hefty expectations and difficulties in recruitment are key factors affecting team performance, urging his players to focus on learning from their mistakes rather than just winning.
