UST defeats UP 25-22, 25-20, 26-24; aims for first-round sweep vs Adamson

UNBEATEN University of Santo Tomas (UST) secured a 25-22, 25-20, 26-24 victory over winless University of the Philippines (UP) in the UAAP Season 86 women's volleyball tournament on Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena.

UST, with a perfect 6-0 record and their best start in 13 years, is now poised to match the feat of the Season 73 batch led by icons Aiza Maizo-Pontillas and Rhea Dimaculangan.

Dazzling rookie Angeline Poyos continued her stellar performance with 22 points, leading UST's march towards a potential first-round sweep against Adamson University (AdU) this Saturday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

UST will face AdU in both men's and women's matches on Saturday, while defending champion De La Salle University (DLSU) and losing finalist National University (NU), trailing with 5-1 records, will also compete earlier in the day.

The victory underscores UST's dominance this season, driven by rookie Angeline Poyos who leads the league in attack efficiency and is second to University of the East rookie Casiey Dongallo in scoring.
