UST ends NU's 5-year men's volleyball streak

University of Santo Tomas (UST) swept National University in both men's and women's volleyball openers for UAAP Season 86 on Sunday.

In the men's division, UST handed defending champion NU its first loss in five years with a decisive 25-23, 26-24, 25-19 victory, ending their 34-game winning streak.

UST coach Odjie Mamon expressed satisfaction but emphasized that there is still a long road ahead for the Golden Spikers to catch up to NU's gold standard in men's volleyball.

Josh Ybañez led UST with 13 points and highlighted the team's motivation to get back at NU after being swept in last year's finals, emphasizing the significance of their hard work during preseason training.
