UST beats Team Soccsksargen 3-1 in Shakey's Super League

University of Santo Tomas (UST) secured a hard-fought victory over Team Soccsksargen with a score of 25-17, 25-18, 28-30, 25-14 in the 2024 Shakey's Super League National Invitationals on Thursday, keeping their quarterfinal hopes alive.

Marga Altea led UST with 17 points, including 11 kills, five block points, and an ace, while Abigail Sinson contributed 13 points, including a crucial service ace that gave them a lead in the fourth set.

UST, composed mostly of rookies, used a huge run in the fourth frame to take the fight out of their Mindanao-based rivals after yielding the extended third set and avoiding a repeat of their opening-day defeat against University of Batangas.

The team emphasized the need for better communication among teammates as they continue to build cohesion despite being composed of players from different schools and regions.

Team Soccsksargen's Janelle Maignos scored 16 points while Ressel Pedroza led USPF with 15 points in their Pool C match against Lyceum of the Philippines University, which ended in a 25-19, 17-25, 25-23, 25-19 victory for USPF.
