NU women's volleyball team secures quarterfinal spot

The National University (NU) women's volleyball team secured their quarterfinal spot in the Shakey's Super League National Invitationals by defeating Xavier University-Northern Mindanao and then sweeping the University of Southern Philippines Foundation on Saturday at Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Led by Aishat Bello and Evangeline Alinsug who scored nine and eight points respectively, NU maintained their strong performance despite earlier absences of key players like Bella Belen and Arra Ella Panique.

On Saturday, Opposite Nataszha Bombita and wing spiker Myrtle Escanlar each contributed nine points as the team defeated USPF with scores of 25-11, 25-12, and 25-14 in a match that lasted one hour and 18 minutes.

Coach Norman Miguel noted areas needing improvement such as passing and blocking, while Belen and Panique are set to join Alas Pilipinas for a training camp in Japan before the next game against Letran on Sunday at 2 p.m.

NU will face Colegio de San Juan de Letran in the semifinals after Letran's victory over University of Batangus with scores of 25-22, 25-10, and 25-23.
