UST women's volleyball team clinches perfect first-round record

University of Santo Tomas women's volleyball team concluded their UAAP Season 86 first-round campaign with a perfect record after defeating Adamson University on Saturday night.

The match ended with scores of 25-18, 22-25, 25-15, and 28-26 at the Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, securing their best start since entering the Final Four Era.

Setter Cassie Carballo led UST with 22 excellent sets and five points, while libero Detdet Pepito contributed 21 digs and 12 excellent receptions.

UST's seven consecutive wins is their best start since entering the Final Four Era, matching their performance from the 2006-2007 season despite losing key players like Eya Laure.

Head coach Kung Fu Reyes highlighted his team's ability to balance academic responsibilities with rigorous training, noting that they faced challenges due to preliminary exams and lack of rest.

The Golden Tigresses now lead the standings ahead of preseason favorites La Salle and National University but must remain focused on improving their net defense as they face more challenges in the second round.
