Colinares leads UST to victory over De La Salle in UAAP men's volleyball

Popoy Colinares led University of Santo Tomas to a decisive victory over De La Salle in the UAAP Season 87 men's volleyball on Wednesday, winning 25-21, 25-20, and 25-16 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Colinares scored 17 points with 11 kills, five blocks, and one ace despite Josh Ybañez's continued absence due to a grade 2 ankle sprain.

UST coach Odjie Mamon praised his team for their depth and positive practice atmosphere that translated into a strong performance, noting the team’s confidence regardless of lineup changes.

Jau De La Noche scored nine of his 12 points in the first set, while rookie JJ Macam contributed 10 points and 13 excellent receptions.

De La Salle struggled offensively with Noel Kampton limited to six points as they fell to 1-2 tied with their next opponent on Sunday, the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons and Adamson Falcons for sixth place.

Adamson ended its eight-game losing streak by defeating University of the East 27-29, 25-23, 25-20, and 25-17, securing Raffy Mosuela's first win as coach.
