UP Maroons beat UST 81-70, extend winning streak to six

University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons defeated University of Santo Tomas (UST) in the UAAP Season 87 men's basketball tournament on Wednesday, October 2, with a score of 81-70.

Despite extending their winning streak to six games and maintaining a perfect record this season, UP acknowledges areas for improvement, particularly in defense after trailing early in both recent matches against Adamson and UST.

Francis Lopez, who scored 15 points and contributed defensively with rebounds, assists, blocks, and steals, emphasized the need for continued focus on defensive strategy ahead of their crucial match against De La Salle (DLSU) this Sunday.

UP assistant coach Christian Luanzon echoed Lopez's sentiments, noting that while the team has won by double figures in recent games, they must remain vigilant given how quickly leads can be reduced.

The Fighting Maroons face defending champions DLSU on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena for a chance to achieve a first-round sweep and will need to contain key player Kevin Quiambao, who is the reigning MVP.
