Ateneo beats UP in five-set UAAP volleyball match, climbs to fifth place

Ateneo de Manila University secured a five-set victory over the University of the Philippines in the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball tournament on Saturday, March 22.

The Blue Eagles triumphed with scores of 15-25, 25-23, 27-25, 30-32, and 16-14, improving their record to 3-5 and tying with Adamson University for fifth place in the standings.

Lyann de Guzman led Ateneo with a standout performance of 25 points, while AC Miner contributed significantly with 19 points and 10 digs.

In the decisive fifth set, trailing by two at 12-14, Ateneo showed resilience with key contributions from Zey Pacia who scored back-to-back hits to level the game.

De Guzman emphasized that despite being short-staffed due to several player absences, this victory is crucial for their development as players both physically and mentally.
