Residents Evacuate as Taal Volcano Erupts

On January 12, thousands of Batangas residents evacuated their homes following a phreatic eruption at Taal Volcano.

By Wednesday, evacuees from Talisay and Tanauan faced difficulties reaching evacuation centers due to thick mud formed by rain and ashfall.

Local authorities declared forced evacuation for the entire 45,000 population of Talisay, with over 7,000 residents already in Santo Tomas.

Rescue teams were readied on Wednesday morning to evacuate remaining residents from Talisay town who refused to leave their homes.

Evacuees expressed fear about potential further eruptions and needed assistance for transportation to safer sites and relief aid.
