Sen Hontiveros seeks Senate probe on Bilibid inmate deaths

Senator Risa Hontiveros expressed disbelief over nine high-profile inmates at New Bilibid Prison reportedly dying from COVID-19.

Hontiveros filed a resolution seeking a Senate investigation into these deaths, citing corruption in the Bureau of Corrections and lack of reliable information on inmate fatalities.

Senate President Vicente Sotto III also filed a resolution to investigate whether the reported deaths were due to COVID-19 or if they were a ruse for inmates to escape.

Sotto raised concerns about the absence of autopsies, lack of notification to relatives, and non-involvement of the DOJ in these cases.
