Lawmakers call for probe on NBP inmate deaths

On Tuesday, ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Niña Taduran and Muntinlupa City Representative Ruffy Biazon called for transparency regarding the deaths of high-profile inmates at New Bilibid Prison due to COVID-19.

Taduran urged a congressional inquiry into the cases involving these inmate deaths since May, while Biazon criticized BuCor chief Gerald Bantag's refusal to disclose names citing the Data Privacy Act.

Bantag confirmed nine high-profile inmates died of COVID-19 and 21 total inmates who tested positive have already passed away since March.
