BuCor denies inmates escaped, not died of COVID-19

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) dismissed claims that notorious inmates who reportedly died due to COVID-19 were actually made to escape.

BuCor spokesman Colonel Gabriel Chaclag said such a conspiracy would require involvement from hundreds of BuCor staff, making it highly impossible.

BuCor chief Gerald Bantag also denied allegations that inmates inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) were being executed under the guise of the pandemic, stating that recent inmate deaths were due to confirmed COVID-19 cases.
