Senate detains Bamban mayor Alice Guo, increases security

The Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms (OSAA) of the Philippine Senate is ensuring the safety of dismissed Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo upon her detention.

Retired Lt. Gen. Roberto Ancan assured reporters that there are no perceived threats at this time and they will increase security if necessary.

Alice Guo will likely be detained in the same room as her sister Shiela Guo, who was previously apprehended.

Guo was arrested in Tangerang City, Indonesia at 1:30 am on Wednesday and will undergo processing by the Bureau of Immigration before being turned over to the Senate.

Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Roberto Ancan confirmed that Alice and Shiela Guo will be allowed visits from relatives and lawyers but no cellphones during their detention.

Initially, Senate President Francis Escudero had suggested allowing the detainees to use cell phones, but later retracted this decision upon Senator Risa Hontiveros' request.
