Former Bamban mayor arrested for POGO scams, cybercrime

Alice Guo, former mayor of Bamban, Tarlac, was apprehended by Indonesian authorities and returned to the Philippines.

Guo's arrest came after she fled the country in July following her involvement in illegal POGO operations and missing a Senate panel investigation.

Documents found under Guo's name linked her directly to an illegal POGO hub involved in cybercrime, internet fraud, torture, and human trafficking.

Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada refused on Tuesday to name the foreigner who allegedly helped Guo escape the Philippines, only revealing that the individual is a Chinese fugitive supposedly in Taiwan.

Guo will face multiple cases including graft and corruption, tax evasion, perjury, money laundering, and qualified human trafficking.
