Quinta causes PHP226M agri damage in W. Visayas

Typhoon Quinta caused P226.96 million in agricultural damage in Western Visayas as of November 6.

The typhoon affected 16,468 farmers and 16,613.94 hectares of farmland with rice and other crops.

Iloilo province suffered the most damage at P101.80 million affecting 9,274 farmers and 8,709.35 hectares of rice fields.

Aklan reported the least damage at P1.22 million affecting 100 farmers and 53.45 hectares of rice fields.

Antique reported PHP45.57 million in damages while Capiz reported PHP33.07 million.

As of November 4, initial damage to agriculture and fisheries was estimated at P132.63 million with Iloilo, Antique, Capiz, and Aklan being the most affected provinces.

The DA provided buffer stocks for seeds and the PCIC will indemnify insured plantations.
