DA: Timely weather advisories save P26.5B crops

Timely weather advisories from PAGASA helped farmers save PHP26.5 billion worth of crops during Typhoons Quinta and Rolly, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA).

Farmers were able to harvest early due to these warnings, saving 165,000 metric tons of palay, which is two percent of the projected fourth quarter harvest.

The DA estimates that PHP7.66 billion worth of palay and PHP1.31 billion worth of corn were saved from Typhoon Quinta, while PHP16.99 billion worth of palay and PHP579 million worth of corn were saved from Super Typhoon Rolly.

Despite the savings, crop damage still reached PHP4.56 billion.
