Quiambao scores 33, grabs 11 in La Salle's win over Ateneo

Kevin Quiambao scored a career-high 33 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead De La Salle University to an 80-65 victory over Ateneo de Manila University in the UAAP Season 87 men's basketball tournament on Saturday, October 26.

Quiambao revealed that Coach Topex Robinson instructed him to be 'bwakaw' with the ball and just shoot it without wasting possessions, leading to his outstanding performance after scoring a previous career-high of 29 points against University of Santo Tomas.

La Salle dominated the game with Quiambao being the only double-digit scorer for the defending champions, while Ateneo's Jared Bahay led the Blue Eagles with a career-high 22 points in their losing effort.

Despite his success, Quiambao emphasized the need to improve as a leader and acknowledged that the team still has work to do, especially regarding turnovers he committed during the game.

Coach Robinson praised Quiambao’s dedication and work ethic during the postgame press conference, while Ateneo coach Tab Baldwin also recognized Quiambao's talent and leadership.
