Duterte OKs review of pork import limits

President Rodrigo Duterte has approved a plan to review and potentially increase the minimum access volume (MAV) for pork imports in response to rising prices due to an African Swine Fever outbreak.

The Department of Agriculture estimates that with current demand at 1,618,355 metric tons and projected supply shortages, expanding the MAV is necessary to stabilize domestic pork supplies.

Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles stated during a press briefing that the DA recommends studying an expansion of the MAV to cover the projected shortfall for the year.
