DA facilitates hog shipments from regions to Metro Manila

The Department of Agriculture (DA) is facilitating shipments of live hogs from the Visayas, Mindanao, and parts of Luzon to Metro Manila to address a potential food-inflation crisis.

On Sunday, DA Secretary William D. Dar announced that two truckloads carrying 260 hogs from Region 12/SOCCSKSARGEN are expected to arrive in Manila early next week.

Earlier this week, hog raisers in Iloilo shipped 600 live hogs to Luzon to help mitigate shortages caused by African Swine Fever (ASF).

Mr. Dar authorized regional directors to realign budgets for the transport of hogs and other meat products to Metro Manila, including hiring reefer vans, trucks, vessels, and cold storage facilities.
