PNP reports 133 more cops infected with COVID-19

As of Sunday, May 2, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported that 133 more officers tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of infections to 20,398.

Active cases in the PNP now stand at 1,669 with recoveries increasing to 18,673 after 142 more officers recovered.

The latest fatality is a 50-year-old police lieutenant from Calabarzon who died on April 29, raising the total death toll due to COVID-19 in the PNP to 56.

This officer had received his first dose of Sinovac vaccine on March 31 and experienced symptoms a week later, leading to hospitalization and critical oxygen levels.

Despite being scheduled for hemoperfusion on April 28, the procedure could not be performed due to hospital capacity issues in Metro Manila and Calabarzon.
