Philippines logs 1,723 new COVID-19 cases; active tally highest since Dec

The Philippines logged 1,723 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, May 15, 2023, the lowest daily tally in five days but with active cases rising to 15,895, the highest in over four months.

Active cases have been above 15,000 for three consecutive days and are now higher than December's peak.

The DOH reported a total of 4,116,925 cases since the start of the pandemic with recoveries increasing by 1,719 to 4,034,577 while deaths remain at 66,453.

From May 8 to May 14, weekly cases increased by 31% to 12,414, the highest in 30 weeks since October 10-16, 2022.

The National Capital Region and Calabarzon continue to have the most new cases in the past two weeks with 9,361 and 5,065 respectively.
