Philippines' COVID-19 reproduction number drops to 0.96

The Philippines' COVID-19 reproduction number dropped to 0.96 as of September 28, indicating slowing virus transmission.

OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David reported that new cases in the country averaged 17,293 from September 22 to 28 with a growth rate of -11% compared to the previous week.

Metro Manila's reproduction number returned to 0.94 on September 27 after rising slightly to 0.98 on September 26.

Dr. David noted that while hospital capacity remains high in affected areas, the downward trend is more defined now and the goal for Metro Manila is to decrease fresh virus cases to 3,000 daily.
