PH awaits genome results of 3 travelers

Malacañang is awaiting genome sequencing results from three travelers from South Africa, Burkina Faso, and Egypt who tested positive for COVID-19.

The DOH reported that 253 travelers came from South Africa between November 15 to 29, with one testing positive for the virus.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire stated that no Omicron cases have been confirmed in the Philippines and the government is conducting intensive backtracing and re-testing of individuals who arrived from African countries during this period.

Three travelers from South Africa, Burkina Faso, and Egypt tested positive for COVID-19; however, all three are fully vaccinated and asymptomatic.

Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson announced that the situation is under control but urged the public to remain vigilant.
