Philippines improves in Nikkei's COVID recovery ranking

The Philippines' improved ranking from 103rd to 57th place in Nikkei Asia's latest COVID-19 recovery ranking indicates that the government's response is effective.

Acting presidential spokesperson Karlo Nograles stated that this shows successful containment of the Delta variant, despite a high short-term case fatality rate of over 9%, which is second-highest globally.

OCTA Research fellow Fr. Nicanor Austriaco noted on Monday that the country may have substantial immunity to COVID-19 due to low case numbers and high mobility levels.

Fr. Austriaco reported to President Duterte that hospitalization levels are improving despite Delta being dominant, suggesting a positive trend in the pandemic situation.
