NU upsets DLSU in nonbearing game, ends 9-game streak

National University (NU) concluded its campaign in the UAAP Season 87 men's basketball tournament with an upset victory over De La Salle University (DLSU), winning 63-54 on Wednesday at UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.

The Bulldogs' PJ Palacielo and Jake Figuero led NU, scoring 16 and 14 points respectively, helping the team end DLSU's nine-game winning streak despite playing in a nonbearing game.

Coach Jeff Napa praised his players for giving their best effort throughout the season, expressing hope that they will be healthy next year to improve their performance.

DLSU struggled with turnovers and poor shooting from Kevin Quiambao, forcing them into 22 mistakes which NU capitalized on, while Mike Phillips led DLSU with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

NU finished Season 87 with a 5-9 record, while DLSU secured a playoff spot at 12-2.
