NU women's basketball dominates first round with 7-0 record

National University secured a dominant performance in the first round of the UAAP Season 87 women's basketball tournament on Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.

NU finished with an undefeated 7-0 record after defeating Ateneo, while University of Santo Tomas ended the round with a strong 6-1 record following their victory over Far Eastern University.

The Lady Bulldogs, seven-time champions from 2014 to 2022 who once held a 108-game winning streak, reminded the league of their dominance after falling to silver in Season 86 by sweeping the first-round field with an average winning margin of 17.3 points.

Despite having no player in the scoring top 10 and leader Kristine Cayabyab averaging only 9.4 points per game, NU is first in team assists (18.8) and bench points (42.1).

The Lady Bulldogs will look to maintain their momentum as they prepare for the next round of the tournament starting on Saturday, October 12.
