MMDA ready for two-week transport strike

The MMDA is prepared for a two-week transport strike from Dec. 18 to 29.

Chairman Romando Artes assured that inter-agency coordination with local government units will minimize inconvenience for commuters and free rides will be provided in affected areas.

Transport groups PISTON and MANIBELA are protesting the yearend deadline set by the LTFRB for consolidating Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) operators due to frustration over the transport modernization program.

Despite initial plans for a two-day strike, the protest has been extended to two weeks.

Transport Secretary Jaime Bautista warned that franchises will be revoked for those who fail to consolidate, emphasizing that franchises are privileges and not rights.
