Transport groups stage joint strike against PUV modernization

Transport groups PISTON and Manibela are continuing a joint transport strike against the government's Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) modernization program.

The protest, which began on Monday at Monumento Circle in Caloocan City, warns of potential job losses for up to 900,000 jeepney drivers and operators if the December 31 deadline is not extended.

PISTON has petitioned the Supreme Court to void Department Order No. 2017-011 and nullify other LTFRB issuances, while Manibela seeks an extension of franchise validity and provisional operating authority rather than a consolidation deadline extension.
