CDO officials divided over ECQ implementation

Cagayan de Oro city officials are divided over whether to implement an enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) due to recent COVID-19 cases.

Mayor Oscar Moreno faces opposition from 26 barangay chairpersons who have petitioned for an ECQ, while 50 of his allies support his stance against it.

The petitioners cite concerns for their constituents' well-being after the city recorded seven confirmed cases, including four deaths.

Misamis Oriental Governor Maria Lourdes Locsin Jeremias and socio-political organizations have also called for a stricter lockdown to curb the spread of the virus.

Supporters of Moreno argue that they want health measures implemented but are hesitant about placing the entire city under ECQ.
